Precision toolmaking for reliable series production

In-house engineering and manufacture of complex precision tools weighing up to 2 tonnes, ensuring a stable start to series production from the very first trial.

Successful series production starts with tool design

Toolmaking

At Mitter, toolmaking is more than metalworking: it lays the foundations for premium product quality and cost-effective series production. Experience shows that 80% of problems arising during series production stem from inadequate tool design. We eliminate this very risk at the design stage.

Complete tool manufacturing

At our own facility, we use state-of-the-art technology to manufacture multi-cavity, hot-runner and complex-geometry precision tools. By continuously developing our machinery, we provide solutions for a wide range of industrial requirements, from the smallest precision dimensions to mould plates measuring 1600×800 mm.

The main tool types we have experience in manufacturing:

Plastic injection moulds

Aluminium die-casting dies

Blanking, bending and press tools

Prototype and small-series tools

Our 5-axis CNC milling centres and precision die-sinking electrical discharge machining (EDM) equipment enable us to produce the most complex ribs and internal features with micron-level accuracy. To ensure a long service life, we use special high-hardness, corrosion-resistant tool steels, with particular attention to the surface coatings required for abrasive glass-fibre-reinforced (GF) polymers.

Design optimised for manufacturing

DFM: design for manufacturability

We start every project with a thorough manufacturability analysis. In our own engineering office, we examine part geometry using modern CAD/CAM systems such as SolidWorks and NX, so that the tool is already close to its final configuration at the first sampling trial (T1).

Thermal balance:

We optimise the positioning of cooling circuits to prevent warpage and reduce cycle time.

Rheological simulation:

We use Moldflow® analysis to model venting and filling patterns, preventing air bubbles and burn marks.

Metrology validation

We inspect every tool component using a 3D coordinate measuring machine before assembly.

Maintenance considerations:

We design tools so that wear parts can be replaced quickly without fully dismantling the tool.

An average of 40+ complex new tools delivered annually, with a 95.5% first sampling (T1) success rate.

Start your project with a manufacturability analysis!

For us, a quotation is more than a PDF file. We carry out a thorough manufacturability assessment for every enquiry, identify potential geometric issues and recommend the best possible tool design from the outset.
